Sumi Yakitori
Hi Uncle Steve,
An even briefer review for a restaurant I didn't think I'd review.
We were looking for something light and casual tonight and decided to go to a sushi place we've passed many times before. It it next to our local ramen place and has always been a very interesting building in appearance. Straddles both a modern and a rustic aesthetic. Small, intimate place. And "this place looks legit."
No drinks tonight, thought they did have a very nice selection of sakes available. Lauren doesn't care for it and 300 mL was a little heavy for me by myself for a light meal.
Lauren began with pork shumai and miso soup. Both excellent. The miso had a great sweet earthiness. The shumai was like velvet.
I began with a Berkshire pork sausage Yakitori and a bacon quail egg Yakitori. (And for all your readers out there (me included) Yakitori is a Japanese skewer.). The sausage was fantastic. Just about as close to the epitome of sausage as you can get. I was particularly keen on the mouthfeel of the rendered fat. The other Yakitori was three quail eggs individually wrapped in bacon. Also very good.
For our mains, we shared, but Lauren ordered the pork belly fried rice. Excellent. Incredibly fresh. I ordered a sashimi platter. We both agreed that the quality of the fish was very, very high and that this was one of the top sushi restaurants in Miami.
