Edge
Hi Uncle Steve,
Another restaurant in the books and it was a pleasurable surprise. Edge is the steakhouse in the Four Seasons hotel that also serves as the hotel restaurant. Among the many (many) steakhouses in the greater downtown area, it's both one of the oldest and generally considered near the bottom of the pack.
Perhaps with this is mind, the powers that be brought in a highly regarded chef earlier this year to remake and improve the food. So successful was said chef, that the restaurant (a steakhouse) has generated buzz amongst the Miami foodie community. And so we heard and--between the fact it is two blocks from our apartment and we wanted a swanky dinner for our 10th anniversary--went.
Cocktails: Lauren began with a tequila based drink with habanero called Smoke and Tears. Excellent and surprisingly spicy. A challenge for her to work through.
I had two variations on an Old Fashioned. (They had four or five). The first was a Hayden and Hazel, with Hayden bourbon and housemate green walnut hitters. Excellent. The second was made with a cigar infused Dewars. Very good. And perhaps more importantly, unlike many other places that hawk their 'variations on an Old Fashioned', I think that Edge's variations actually present discernible profiles that makes trying them interesting.
Pictures are coming. Patience please.
For an appetizer, we each ordered a salad. Lauren has a Caesar salad, which was very good by itself, by the coup de grace was the crispy egg: a soft boiled egg covered in a light batter and breadcrumbs and flash fried. Delicious. I had a beet salad which was so good I was shocked I was eating it in a steakhouse.

And, I forgot to mention, in addition to the complimentary bread, they also had complimentary seasoned potato chips.
For our entrees, Lauren ordered an angus filet, medium rare which was "heaven in her mouth", the "best steak she's ever had" and other accolades. I had a New York strip which, about halfway through I decided was medium and not medium rare. I was already wrist deep, so I didn't complain, which had the unintended consequence that my steak became the most disappointing

We then moved onto dessert, which was absolutely fantastic. I don't know how to describe what they were, other than that the white dollop on my plate was a basil ice cream (which was itself fantastic).

As a final note, they had a chocolate tasting menu, though we did not partake.

All in all, a surprisingly excellent meal and highly recommended.
